Welcome to the Department of Hospitality Management
Preparing professionals for excellence in hospitality, tourism, and customer service management.
Background of the Department of Hospitality Management
The Department of Hospitality Management at Bolgatanga Technical University was established during the 2008/2009 Academic year. It is a dynamic and career-oriented academic unit committed to the training and development of skilled professionals in the fields of hospitality, tourism, and related service industries. The department blends theoretical instruction with hands-on practical training to prepare students for successful careers in hotels, resorts, restaurants, event management, airlines, institutional catering establishments, and entrepreneurship.
With a strong emphasis on practical learning, the department operates specialised facilities such as the Students’ Demonstration Centre with housekeeping suites, a food practical laboratory, a training kitchen, and a restaurant. These equip students with the competencies required for leadership, innovation, and professionalism in the global hospitality sector.
The department’s staff comprises experienced academics and industry practitioners who bring both research insight and applied expertise into teaching and student mentoring.
The department operates under the School of Applied Science and Arts and collaborates closely with industry partners to ensure that its curricula remain relevant, competitive, and aligned with current trends and employer expectations.
