Background of department
The Computing and Information Technology (CIT) Department was established in Bolgatanga Technical University in 2024, with an aim to fostering and delivering forefront technological education, innovation and training. The department blends theory with hands-on practical training to produce graduates well equipped with requisite ICT skills, knowledge and competencies to meet the dynamic demands of the ICT sector in Ghana and beyond.
Vision
To be a center of excellence in computing and information technology education, training and producing industry-ready graduates to lead innovation and digital transformation in Ghana and beyond.
Mission
To deliver quality ICT education, training, and research by equipping students with practical skills, ethical values, and entrepreneurial abilities for enhanced innovation and digital transformation for societal advancement.
Goal
To train and equip students with requisite ICT skills and to contribute to Ghana’s technological development, digital economy, and global competitiveness.
Objectives
The objectives of CIT Department are to:
- Provide Competency-Based Training in ICT to address market needs.
- Develop students’ critical thinking, creativity, and entrepreneurial capacity.
- Strengthen collaboration with industry, academia, and international partners.

Programmes run under the Departmen
Diploma Programmes
CIT currently offers a range of diploma programmes designed to equip students with foundational and intermediate skills across key areas in ICT. These include:
- Diploma in Computer Science (DCS)
- Diploma in Information Technology (DIT)
- Diploma in Network Technology (DNT)
These programmes emphasize on hands-on learning, critical thinking, and technical problem-solving, laying a solid foundation for the field of work and further studies.
Bachelor of Technology (BTech) Programmes
One of the department’s flagship progrmme is the Bachelor of Technology (BTech) in Data Communication & Networking. This programme is unique, as it focuses on advanced network systems, digital communication infrastructure, and the practical skills needed in today’s digital and technological world.
Future Programmes
The CIT department is envisioned to be abreast with the emerging trends, and diversify its academic portfolio through its academic programmes. So, the department is far advanced in developing and mounting a cutting-edge BTech programmes, such as:
- BTech in Computer Science & Entrepreneurship (Fusing computing with business acumen to nurture tech innovators)
- BTech in Information Technology with specializations in:
- Artificial Intelligence (AI)
- Cybersecurity
- Information Systems
- Software Technology

Dr. James Kok Konjaang

Dr. James Kok Konjaang
Lecturer
James Kok Konjaang is a research scientist with a strong analytical and multi-talented background in Cloud Computing, HPC, Big Data and Workflow Scheduling. He holds a Ph.D. in Computer Science from the University College Dublin (UCD), Ireland, MSc. in Computer Science from Universiti Putra Malaysia (UPM), Malaysia, BSc. in Management with Computing from Regent University College of Science and Technology, Ghana and HND in Marketing from Bolgatanga Technical University, (BTU), Ghana. He is a lecturer and researcher at the Bolgatanga Technical University. Dr. James Kok is an editor/was an editor for: IEEE Access, Journal of Computer Science, Sustainable Computing: Informatics and Systems, Concurrency and Computation: Practice and Experience, etc. Dr. Kok has published over 10 peer-reviewed journal articles and international conference papers on various topics, including Cloud Resource Distribution, Dynamic and Adaptive Resource Allocation Algorithms, Efficient Workload Distribution, Workflow Management and Scheduling.

Mr. Ayannor I. Baba
Lecturer
Mr Ayannor Issaka Baba is an Academician of long standing; for the past 19 years he has taught in the basic, secondary (for 5 years) and in the tertiary level (for 14 years now) in Bolgatanga Technical University. He lecture IT and IT/ Computer related courses; computer literacy, databases and Programming. He is now a PhD student in Computer science and Technology in Jiangsu University, China. His research direction is Information security using deep learning; emphasis on Data poisoning.

Mr. Dennis Redeemer Korda [CEH, MBCS]
Lecturer
Dennis Redeemer Korda’s academic journey explores the deep connections between computer science, mathematics, and digital security challenges. He has completed multiple professional programs, including three diplomas and several certificates, notably Certified Ethical Hacker (CEH) and Membership of the British Computer Society (MBCS) establishing himself as an Expert Computer Scientist. Throughout his career, Dennis has demonstrated excellence as both a researcher and educator. He has published in prestigious journals, reviews for three academic journals, and taught computer science courses for over six years. His teaching philosophy emphasizes guiding students through hands-on activities and technological tools to foster curiosity and practical skills. His research focuses on Cybersecurity, Cryptography, Threat Intelligence, IT Risk Management and ICT Education, contributing to both academic knowledge and practical solutions in today’s digital world.
